Penguin Computing and Altair to Deliver Enhanced Utility to HPC Cluster Users

Scyld ClusterWare and PBS Professional to provide a tightly integrated cluster computing solution Troy, MI. and San Francisco, Ca. September 17, 2008 -- Altair, the leader in grid-computing, workload management and CAE applications, and Penguin Computing, a leading provider of HPC clustering solutions, announced today their partnership to deliver Linux HPC clusters with unprecedented ease of use to the rapidly growing technical computing market.

"Our customers look to Penguin to help them tackle the most difficult computational challenges facing the manufacturing market today", said Matt Jacobs, vice president of HPC at Penguin Computing. "Through ongoing product innovation and meaningful relationships with companies like Altair, we continue to advance our effort to remove complexity from cluster deployments and enable our user base to leverage this powerful technology"

The solution, available from Penguin, will leverage the two companies' deep, combined heritage of innovation in clustering technology to provide customers with application optimized, computing platforms that are easy to deploy, manage and scale. The strength of this ease of use design lies in the integration of Penguin's powerful cluster management platform, Scyld ClusterWare, Altair's industry leading workflow management software, PBS Professional and Penguin's cluster systems. The resulting solution is a tightly integrated technical computing engine that reduces complexity and operational costs while increasing overall utilization due to the intuitive nature of the technology.

"In working with one of the leading providers of Linux clusters in Penguin Computing, Altair is continuing its vision of making PBS Professional an integrated component in our partner's systems to deliver a more complete solution," said Michael Humphrey, vice president of partner programs for Altair. "PBS is the most widely used software tool for cluster and grid-computing workload management and job scheduling worldwide -- and we are excited Penguin Computing is packaging our solutions to deliver higher value to their customers."
